Acrylic spray deck is the workhorse: a texture best described as orange peel on your wall, except outside. It goes over sound existing concrete, comes in a range of colours, and stays cooler underfoot than bare slab.
Stamped concrete and travertine pavers are the step up when you want the deck to look like stone. All three can be done at the same time as a remodel, which is usually the cheaper way to get there.
